Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/08/2017

Number: 1

"King" (the male Ruby Throated hummingbird who ruled the backyard all summer long) seems to have headed south for the winter. His wife "Reina" left about a week before, and the two kids departed soon after. The weather has been clear, with blue skies, so it is probably good migration weather. The only hummers I saw on Saturday came by early in the morning. It's a little sad to see King's favorite perch (a small twig strategically located in a live oak tree) empty, but I like to think he will now be enjoying warmer climes where the days are longer than the are here in Humble.
