Yesterday (10/8) was the most we have had in one day this year. Mostly feeding on the purple butterfly bush. Usually not the top choice but the white butterfly bush has lost all of its bloom.
A cold front is moving in tonight with highs in the 40’s tomorrow. I believe yesterday (10/8) was our peak migration day for 2017.
Observations for the 2017 year.:
August 2017 was warmer than usual with abundance of rainfall which elevated the sightings we had. We usually do not have multiple days where we see monarchs.
September 2017 was warmer and drier than normal and windy. The strong winds did pin down monarch
transition up in lowa and Nebraska.
Will be interested in see the population numbers in Mexico. My gut tells me the population will be higher than 2016 but you would know it by the decline we experienced this migration cycle.
