Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 10/09/2017

Number: 6

At about 8:10am I spot one female hummer which very well could have been the female I spotted the night before. She drank for a long time hitting on all three of our patio feeders. leaving in a southward direction. At that time it was 61 degrees and no breeze. temperatures were to rise to a high of 77 today with clear skies. At near 9am another female whom was very plump sat for a long time drinking from the dining room bow window feeder then departed southward. (attached picture). Then at 9:30am another hummer arrived at the patio feeders. This one was not very plump. Between 10:30am and 11am two more females paid visits to the patio feeders. Both drank for a long time. One looked to be a dark colored juvenile and the other was quite tall but slender. Finally at 6:45pm I spotted a very, very small hummer on the dining room bow window feeder. She to drank a long time but flew westward, possibly roosting for the evening in my heavy evergreen hedge row. It was 66 degrees at that time and a barely noticeable breeze. Temperatures are expected to be around 60 degrees tonight, little to no breeze and clear skies. Glad that even after not seeing any hummers for over two weeks, that I keep my feeders out and fresh, many weeks after my regulars depart.
