Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 10/11/2017

Number: 1

Excellent number came through today. Sadly while walking at the ocean's edge this morning, I found an adult male spread out flat on the sand at the high tide mark. I thought it was dead but to my surprise when I picked it up it was still alive. I brought it home and cleaned the sand off of its wings and gave it sugar water which it consumed. However after several hours of attempting to nurse it, the monarch died. A victim of the perilous flight many attempt over the ocean from Long Island to land to the south. I was happy that it died after I placed it on a butterfly bush bloom and not on a sandy, wet beach.
