Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/12/2017

Number: 3

The days high temperature is expected to reach 65 degrees with cloudy overcast skies and precipitation of varying degree most of the day. Early morning errands caused me to miss whether any of my previous late evening migrating visitors came in early. My first sighting of today was at 8:18am a female ranging of average size and quite plump. After feeding from the patio feeder for 2 minutes she retreated to the tall arborvitae hedge 15 feet away. Returning again to the feeder at 8:25am. This time she drank for a minute and then flew off due southward. the temperature at the time was 51 degrees and heavy overcast with a misty drizzle and no noticeable breeze. the second sighted hummer arrived at 8:40am, a female not near as plump as my first sighting of the day. She drank for a minute or so from dining room bow window feeder and then flew up into a nearby tree. I continued watching her, as at 8:47am she again returned to the same feeder drank another minute, returning to same tree and again returned to the feeder at 8:54am, drank for about two minutes and then flew off southward. At that time it was 52 degrees, no breeze and no precipitation. I wasn't able to observe during the day again until evening, where upon my third sighted visiting hummer arrived at 6:20pm, she was a very plump female and spent a long time at the bow window feeder, drinking and looking around. Eventually she flew off in the direction of a few large arborvitae on the west side of the house. I believe she was the very same female that returned to the same feeder at 7:01pm (attached photo), afterwards returning to the same large arborvitaes, possibly hunkering down for the night.
