The migration so far this year has been a slow, steady trickle, one or two per day but almost every day. Today was different. I saw the first monarch migrating though our yard about 11:00. Then a second about noon, and a third about 12:10. During the short 10-minute drive to the work, 12:15-12:25, I saw definitely 6 migrating (crossing the road in front of the car), plus a few other maybees (too far away for positive ID). I was inside a building the rest of the day and could not make further observations. This was the first big wave of migrants coming though our town this Fall. Noon weather was sunny, 73 degrees, south wind about 10mph. Later the wind picked up.
