Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/17/2017

Number: 2

Just before 10:00 I unintentionally disturbed a Monarch from the dew covered grass. It flew up and in turn, disturbed another female resting in our Ash tree. The first one settled in an almost denuded Mulberry tree splaying its wings in the sun's rays. The second one went back to the Ash. After a few minutes the first one went back onto the grass. They were about 4 metres apart. Low overnight was 6C, only about 11C at time of observation. Moderate Southwest wind but sunny. Forecast high of 19C heading into another stretch of warmer than normal weather with no rain. Once again the Monarchs were in the lee of the large Cottonwood, our ranch style house and the commercial building. I am speculating that they spent the night here. Still some nectar available including some thistles growing in the garden that I neglected to pull out which are now flowering.
