Just when I thought all the Hummers had flown the coop and I was bemoaning their departure for 2017, I had an adult Ruby Throat buzz through my patio this morning and refresh at the feeder. I almost took the feeders down yesterday, having gone almost a week without seeing any hummers and noting that reported sightings had really declined. The visit was brief.....and the solo aviator moved on. But, it was a treat to have yet one more unexpected visit. It might be the last of this season, but I will keep a feeder clean and filled just in case. It is amazing how those little creatures have become a symbol of hope. I will continue to watch for the next one and hope I am here to see him. The last one was here just 15 minutes ago....I sure hope he has a good safe trip down south, with strong winds at his back plentiful nectar to quench his thirst.
