Elizaville, NY. A warm, suny day. I spent a few hours on the bank of the pond behind the Elizaville diner at midday. There seemed to be a procession of Monarchs traveling south along the east bank---some withn a few minutes of one another. I had 8 Monarch sightings, and on two occasions two were in sight at the same time. I can't be certain none of the Monarchs doubled back on the pond bank and passed me twice while seeking flowers but I didn't observe doubling back, only rather purposeful direct movement in a southerly direction flight with some Monarchs proceeding up the top of the bank and seemingly leaving the pond in a southerly direction and 2 Monarchs stopping to eat while in my sight--one a male and the other a female. The attached picture shows the male.
