Juvenile Male RTH enjoying the 21C (69F) weather we are having. He strictly went to the Black and Blue Salvia during our October sightings. Maybe once I saw him at the Fuchsia during October. I was surprised he didn’t go to the zinnias during October as our earlier hummingbird visitor did during late August early September.
It was a very unusual year for the hummingbirds this fall. Usually we see a hummingbird late August to about mid September. And he/she would come quite often especially the week before he/she left. This year we had invited friends over to photograph the hummingbird in early September in the early evening. Out of three of the days we had people over only one sighting on one of the nights. It was very irregular. We think that was a she and she was very plump at that time. Then we thought he/she was gone by Oct. 1st. On October 13th my husband spotted the young male so that is when I made my vigil from 13th to 19th and he came quite often during those days. I am already thinking about next year and have a list of different flowers to plant.
