Sightings report image

Date: 09/13/2017

Number: 1

I just discovered this website tonight. So, I'm going to send what information we've collected this fall.
We planted our first milkweed plant earlier this year. It produced many seeds that took and made many, many more plants. (Which was helpful for the number of caterpilllars we had!)

We had one Monarch visit our milkweed plant three days in a row beginning September 13, 2017.

By 9/21/17, we had several Monarch caterpillars hatch and begin growing.

We counted at least 19 mature caterpillars in one day, a day or so before they crawled away to begin their transformation.

10/7/17, We discovered (and put in a jar) 1 healthy chrysalis. The next day we discovered a second chrysalis that was near a spider next. But it had been compromised most likely by the spider. The first butterfly emerged the morning of 10/11/17.

After that, we discovered a third one, second healthy emerged butterfly in our garden. Then the remains from a fourth one, third healthy.

Since then, we have had several more monarchs fully around the yard. So I am certain that many of the caterpillar chose some of the taller bushes and trees to transform.
