Five (5) monarchs have been feeding nonstop in the garden today since around 8:00 am. They’ve been fighting a stiff 25 mph wind mostly from the south with gusts at 36+ mph. They’ve been nectaring primarily on tropical milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) and secondarily on blue mistflower (Conoclinium greggii).
The attached picture shows 1 of the 5 butterflies trying to re-establish a secure perch atop a tropical milkweed bloom after having been forced off the flower by a wind gust.
