Observed three Monarch Butterflies along the West River Parkway on Grand Island. Butterflies were in the vicinity of the Parkway parking lot near the west terminus of Fix Road. Butterflies were holding close to the ground in high grass, and shrubs along the Parkway. Winds were very strong from the Southwest and the Monarchs were likely avoiding crossing the open and wind-exposed West Branch Niagara River until migration conditions became more favorable.
