I also observed 1 Monarch caterpillar during the summer this year. Overall, there were more insects of all types this year. Other people in my area reported the same good news. A local person said it was because of the wet spring which was created good breeding conditions. I have been planting a lot of native plants in my garden & letting them self-seed & increase. Hope this helps too
