On my usual (3-4 x/wk) walk along the shore, I began noticing solitary Monarchs flying about. Very little landing, not many flowers out now. Milkweeds are releasing their seeds. No leaves left on them.
There was a definite direction they were all heading in. I would stop walking to verify this. They were all heading in a southwest direction along the coast of L.I. sound. There was very little wind at the time so it was not that they were being blown in that direction.
I am curious about this observation because if they are migrating, I don't understand how they can make it all the way to Mexico before winter hits.
