Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/25/2017

Number: 15

We made a short trip across the Lavaca Bay Causeway
to the peninsula at the north end. We drove along the
shell road and stopped at the southwest tip with nose of the
SUV pointed to the northeast ... in ten minutes we had
nine monarchs come and pass us on both sides at 3 to 5 feet
... all were heading southwest across the 3+ miles of this
stretch of Lavaca Bay. This is what we call the Coastal
Migration Route ... this was at 5 to 5:05, clear sky, 78dF,
NE@4.

We saw two more on the highway (TEX 35) and three more in our
neighborhood about 5:30. Altus was leaving at 6:30 and called
back in that a Monarch was nectaring on the Turk's cap in the
front yard.

Fifteen monarchs for the hour and half.

Two cold fronts already, another cold one coming Saturday ... this
one counts! Coastal Migration will be really good the 28th on ....
