Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 10/30/2017

Number: 4

I've read about migrating Monarchs sipping 'honeydew' while roosting in Pecan Trees in Texas.
With minimal nectar sources available & with these 'late' migrating Monarchs I became curious & began to pay more attention especially when looking at my photos of Monarchs roosting at Point Pelee National Park.
I noticed shiny leaves. And within the last couple weeks I have captured Monarchs with proboscis extended to Grape & Hackberry leaves.
They're sticky enough for my finger to pick up a leaf.
Also noticed an insect flipped over stuck & I flipped it over & it flew away.
I believe this is why they choose the trees they do repeatedly annually.
