With cooler and wetter than normal weather in August and September, the last thing I expected to see was a monarch butterfly feeding on lovely, nectar-rich aster in our local park along the Chippewa River. Luckily, my camera was ready to snap.
A second monarch was spotted later in the day...a perfect, sunny day between rainy stretches. Butterflies and bees were out en masse to warm and feed. In addition, my neighbor spotted a monarch about three miles away in our home garden.
This was our last sighting of the year.
