Belmont Pumpkin Farm, North, VA: Returned and took from ~12:30 to ~4 pm to net, tag and release 40 monarchs attracted to the several hundred feet of blooming Zinnias and Sunflowers planted here. Hard to estimate how many more I could have tagged. I ended up recapturing 4 tagged monarchs, one I had tagged on 10/28 and the others tagged earlier in the same day, so figured I was reaching a saturation point. Observed some courtship today and one unsuccessful mating attempt on 10/28. Suspecting some monarchs stalled by weather patterns are coming out of reproductive diapause. I was not aware of any available milkweeds on this property, though there are still some available in Monarch Waystations #271 & #299 ~30-35 miles SSW. A big 2nd THANK YOU! to the owners for their hospitality so I could use up more Monarch Watch tags on the last day the farm was open for the harvest season. Happy Halloween!
