Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 11/05/2017

Number: 30

I am on the beach at Holden Beach and Monarchs are flying everywhere. Not a swarm but very abundant. Did not know they liked to be in a beach environment.

I have seen them on the beach and in the dunes for the last few days, maybe 100 sightings over the the course of the past three days, but that is very unscientific. So, I just walked outside (11/6) for about five minutes and I saw seven of them. They are moving from east to west (this is a south-facing island), so possibly hugging the shoreline as they fly towards the south. A few stop for a moment but most keep in-flight.
