I can confirm seeing between twenty and thirty Monarchs each day on my "butterfly plants" starting in September. They also seemed to like something growing among the walls of ivy. I looked with binoculars and confirmed from your photos they were indeed Monarchs. The last time I saw them was the day after the Sonoma, Napa, Santa Rosa fires started October 21, 2017. I assumed they flew away to fresh air and got away from the smoke-filled air drifting down from the tragic fires.
I live in the middle "Banana Belt" portion of Sausalito. I have seen Monarch butterflies in my garden for the past twenty years. My friend who lives in North Sausalito reported seeing a large number of Monarchs on her property also, starting in September. “
