I have just finished tagging my last monarch, so let me tell you about one of them. On October 26, a Thursday, I released a female, SPY 698. Two days later on Saturday, October 28, I see a tagged butterfly, I take a pic and zoom in, it's SPY 698 again. She's feeding on the milkweed in my front yard. And then again two days later on Monday, October 30, I am able to sneak up from behind and catch one! It's the same monarch 698! I said, "You gotta head on down to Mexico!". So I believe they take the time to get aquainted with their surroundings before they make their long journey South. So exciting!
