Bald Eagle

Date: 12/11/2017

Number: 1

Approximately 9 a.m perched overlooking creek on North side of Holme avenue overpass. Stayed perched despite the presence of me, a pitbull, boxer and shepherd mix. Moved after 3 minutes to nearby tree slightly down trail heading west. We were able to continue on trail and walk right close looking right up. We were not directly underneath. The dogs were not as interested as I was. They didn't bark and were calm. He flew away after a minute there heading east again.he was completely stark white on head and tail. I believe he was a he. He was big but only looked bigger than some other hawks I have seen when i saw him fly. I felt privleged to have had such an up close and almost personal visit. I am in the park nearly everyday. Last year I saw two bald eagles flying the ballfied right next to this trail. It was one of few days it snowed. We also saw the biggest by far red tailed hawk we've ever seen that same day. Same spot I saw the eagle today. Last year, I believe I saw a northern Harriet passing thru. Last week, we spotted a short eared owl being harassed by crows. It takes years of being in the park everyday. To see a frog or turtle is a big deal. Mostly deer, or other small mammal. I don't think anything will top today's experience.
