I sighted this Monarch Butterfly on St. Simons Island GA very near the beach on January 16, 2018. Unfortunately the butterfly was lying in the road in this position, and it looked very healthy, legs still moving. I carefully placed it in the sun, but I was too late. I thought it was unusual to see here, at this time of year. Also, temperatures had been below freezing for several days before, and even an ice storm the week before. I hope this helps.
