Across the neighbor's yard. I remember thinking at the time it was not the longer, more complex “true song” or “dawn song". It was very familiar, so it wasn't the migration call or the overhead predator call, neither of which I have ever heard to my knowledge. I believe it was one of the alarm calls, and my best guess is the “whinny” as I remember thinking it was relatively tuneful, not a “peek and tut”.
