Robin (First SEEN)

Date: 02/09/2018

Number: 1

I heard a robin singing quite close in our woods. I was surprised, as we have had a lot of snow with more predicted in the near future.

I definitely think it is the true song...repetitive and in the mornings...I have not heard him singing in the evening yet...just in the morning. His stage time lasted at least 20 minutes when I reported. I put birdseed out for the other birds in our front yard and that's whn I heard the robin singing. I am guessing it is more territorial and revving up than really trying to attract a female or get busy nesting. We still have several inches of snow (although it is going to warm to the 30's and 40's here these next two days. I still am shocked to have heard one singing! I see them occasionally this early, but have never heard them sing this early. I haven't heard one sing for several days now, so maybe it is likely he's just been in preparation mode practicing working on his song. ☺

Editor's note: We have moved this report to Robin (FIRST Seen) since the robin was "tuning up" as hormone level rise rather than proclaiming territory which is meant to drove off other robins and a prelude to nesting.
