Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 02/10/2018

Number: 30

A friend and I went for a walk on the Earthquake Trail in Bear Valley at Point Reyes National Seashore. I have seen several Monarchs in this area in other years but never this many. As we walked along the last half of the trail we started seeing one or two Monarchs flying around at a time. After the third one I started counting. Most were flying in one direction following a tree line at the edge of a meadow. They were really fast so it was hard to get a picture and only one turned out! We saw most along the pathway. Other people were trying to take pictures to but it was so hard that we all kept
laughing. This was over a span of just under an hour. We saw a few more flying around in the picnic area by the cars. Sometimes people find Monarchs overwintering near this area within about ten miles but it’s on private land and not always in the same exact area. Perhaps this bunch of Monarchs is from that!
