I wasn't certain that any migratory Mississippi Kites could survive the winter we had, but this one did. He was a late fledgling I've been tracking since November after all the other Kites had migrated. He keeps patrolling the nesting area he grew up in and periodically calls for his parents. I know this because I once set up a recording of his voice, played it back around Christmas when he showed up and he stubbornly stuck by his nesting area calling back. Wouldn't budge. It'll be something when his parents migrate back to that nest and find him patrolling it.
This guy overwintered and NO Kites are back yet.
