Submitted by Don Davis:

Expert birdwatcher Doug McRae reported that on Wednesday, Feb. 21st, 2018, about 250 male red-winged blackbirds arrived in this patch of forest and marsh called "Frankie's Island, south of Brighton, Ontario, just outside of the gates of Presqu'ile Provincial Park. Temperatures have been warming up over the past few days. While most had moved on by Saturday, Feb. 24th, this writer saw and heard just a few, including the one in the attached photo. Declaring their territory with sharp calls; fluffing up their feathers and showing their red epaulettes. The male Red-winged Blackbird’s conk-la-ree! is a classic sound of wetlands across the continent.
