Sightings report image

Date: 03/01/2018

Submitted by Don Davis:

Dr. Fred Helleiner reported that on March 1, 2018, two flocks of migrating tundra swans (formerly called "Whistling Swans") flew over the park heading northward to their Arctic nesting grounds. In southwestern Ontario, these birds stop to feed and rest along the shores of Lakes Erieand and Huron, sometimes in the hundreds and even thousands. What a sight!
There are now numerous sightings all across southern Ontario. North shore of Lake Erie near Aylmer Wildlife Management Area, Ontario, is a favorite viewing spot.
