Tulips EMERGED
Sightings report image

Date: 02/15/2018

Number: 1

Volunteer observer Judy Molnar at the Virginia Living Museum reports that the first Journey North tulips planted in the museum's Children's Learning Garden by Education staff Emily Malick's "Play Date with Nature" class were seen emerged on this date. The VLM's Children’s Learning Garden began with Journey North tulips planted in Fall 1998. Our average date of emergence from 19 years of data is 2/3 [range from Jan 8 to March 5], so this year the tulips emerged 11 days later than average. I suspect the January cold delayed them. Including today's emergence date gives us a new average date of emergence of 2/7 over 20 years of data. Photo was taken 3-2-18.
