Milkweed (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 03/05/2018

Number: 1

Found our first milkweed today! This is a photo of the young green milkweed (Asclepias viridis), about 6 inches tall. It's the native milkweed here. There were a few other smaller sprouts nearby ~ all difficult to see in the green grass. Not much milkweed available here yet, but it should be much more abundant shortly. The false garlic flowers are everywhere thankfully, as they are a critical nectar flower for early monarchs, when other wildflowers are just getting started.
