Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 03/08/2018

Number: 1

A sweet sight late morning when a Ruby-throated female caught my eye just at the right level in the tree branches. She was actively hunting as the small insets warmed up and took flight after a cold night with temps in the 40s. It was just in the low 60s at the time. I've been visiting Orlando over the Winter and when heavy frost took its toll on the flowering plants around the rental apartments, I borrowed tools to prune back the damage and amended the soil to encourage new growth and blooms. I'm so glad I could do that to provide nectar for the Hummingbirds and insect pollinators. This little Hummingbird and the Butterfly activity has been my reward. She looks quite fat and fit and possibly over Wintered nearby. The light was wrong to get a good photo.
