Large, likely 4th instar, on tropical milkweed in a new butterfly garden at our church in Pharr, Texas 78577. The garden was only planted 3 weeks ago. This was spotted by one of the children helping water the garden after church on Sunday. The photo was taken right after I moved the the caterpillar from one nearly eaten up milkweed to another one with plenty of fresh leaves.
