These were not over wintering monarchs. I am sure of that since I have birded that site several times throughout the winter and did not see them before, at least not in these numbers. We usually have a few wintering in Port O'Connor but this year it got down to 26 degrees with lots of wind. Everything was dead after that freeze and I didn't see monarchs afterwards. Did not take photos of the Matagorda Island monarchs since I was birding. But trust me, I know what they look like.
