Around 11:00 am I saw a male monarch in our lower pasture flying low over a milkweed and wildflower area. Later at 1:30 pm I again saw him flying around in the same area and nectaring on false garlic flowers.
From 2:00 to 2:30 pm I watched a female monarch as she was laying eggs, nectaring on false garlic flowers, and resting at times. At this time it was 68 degrees F, cloudy and overcast, with a north wind at 6 mph and humidity at 60%. It was wonderful to see this monarch as she carefully searched for milkweed and then laid eggs on all sizes ~ from tiny sprouts to tall willowy stalks. This is a photo of her laying an egg on a newly emerging milkweed.
