Bald Eagle
Sightings report image

Date: 03/17/2018

Number: 1

Approximately 12:20 p.m., I was walking on the paved trail going towards Holme Ave. I spotted the bald eagle perched on a branch on the other side of the creek. I had my beginning binoculars out for the first time and was thrilled to zoom in through the trees. I can not tell you how lucky I felt on Saint Patrick's Day. The eagle I saw in November I was quite sure was a male. This eagle seemed to have a larger body. It stayed perched for more than five minutes. It did not move until my friend got too close to the creek's edge on our side. It flew east toward the bridge. As we headed back to our car, we were thrilled to see it again close to the Holme Avenue bridge perched on this tree in the photo. Once again, it stayed put until my friend got too close to the bottom of the tree. I was supposed to capture a great video of it flying. Well that is easier said than done with a cellphone camera. My video could cause motion sickness and you only get the takeoff. It is such an experience to see an eagle. It is just not the same seeing a picture or video.
