Over the course of the day I had brief times to be outside, but throughout the day I saw monarchs!
11:00 - 11:30 As I walked around the gently sloping pastures with some trees and a border of woodlands, I saw at least 7 individual monarchs over about 6 acres. They were variously looking for milkweed, nectaring on blackberry blossoms, flying, and resting. It was sunny, 70 degrees F, breezy, with humidity at 42%.
12:15 - 12:45 Again, going outside for a short bit (this time in a different direction), I saw 8 individual monarchs. I walked down our driveway and to the near ditches and saw 3 egg-laying monarchs passing back and forth through the fence line, which has many blackberry vines. Saw 1 male flying in the area. Went down into the pasture area and saw 3 egg-laying females ~ gently fluttering close to the grass. One of those was spotted and chased by a male monarch and they spiraled high into the sky.
2:30 I went to our post office about two miles away and saw 3 monarchs on the way ~ wonderful!
4:00 Stepping outside for a few moments, I saw 2 monarchs flying low in the yard and nearby pasture area.
5:45 - 6:00 Sitting (taking a break) on the grassy path between two woodland areas, I saw 3 monarchs flying low past me. One was extremely faded with a torn wing but seemed to fly just fine.
Throughout the day, as I looked outside through a kitchen or living room window, I would see a monarch flying nearby. It was quite a peaceful and happy monarch day!
This is a photo of a monarch (with a bit of a torn wing) nectaring on a blackberry blossom in the morning sunlight.
