Today I found a 1st instar larva who looked to be about two days old. The first egg here had been found on March 12th. This little larva is on a milkweed that was badly hail-damaged on March 18th. Its upright stem was broken and bent, so that the crown is touching the ground. This is photo of this little larva ~ supported by this hardy survivor milkweed. I will add a photo of the whole milkweed to a Milkweed report. I looked briefly at a few more milkweed plants nearby and found another 1st instar (a newborn) ~ am sure there are more and will do a survey tomorrow.
