Monarch Waystation #299, Virginia Living Museum reporting, Horticulture staff 1st noticed ~8-10 Common milkweed stalks in the small traffic circle near the staff entrance today [average height about 3.5 inches]. That last one warm day of weather must have encouraged them. Haven't seen any other milkweed sprouts anywhere else on the grounds yet. This bed gets the most direct sun, and the pavement around the edges tends to make the edge of the bed both warmer and wetter than the center. Most of the taller, most noticeable stalks are near the edge.
Come and get 'em, monarchs! We're ready!
