Today I was away from home most of the day, so did not have the chance to see monarchs if they were about. At 10am I saw a faded-winged female monarch (small tear in her wing) resting on blackberry vines. She nectared briefly on Indian paintbrush flowers, then fluttered across the pasture. It was 73 degrees F, windy, cloudy, with 81% humidity.
In the evening at 6:30pm my son saw a female monarch nectaring on false garlic flowers (Nothoscordum bivalve) in the bottom pasture. She went from one to another delicately sipping briefly from the small white flowers. This is a photo of her in the early evening twilight as she found needed nectar before resting for the night.
