Sightings report image

Date: 04/03/2018

Number: 7

Today was a warm day with a mix of sun and clouds ~ very windy at times. In the morning as I went about the pastures from about 10:30 to 11am it was 76 degrees F with humidity at 76%. I accidentally spooked a female monarch from a milkweed before I saw her and I also saw 2 males ~ one was nectaring on flowering milkweed and the other was sunning/resting on another milkweed. As I had chances to be outside later in the day I saw monarchs each time ~ flying around and nectaring (often from the nectar-rich thistles). This is a photo of a lovely fellow with some tattered wings as he nectars from a pink thistle (Cirsium horridulum) in the late afternoon.
