Today there were monarchs about all day. In the morning from about 10:00 to 11:00 I saw 9 monarchs around our yard and pastures. At that time it was around 67 degrees F, partly cloudy, winds N 8mph, with 61% humidity. The monarchs were variously flying, egg-laying, sunning/resting, and nectaring from wildflowers.
I went out again around 1pm and saw 6 monarchs. It was warmer at 76 degrees F, partly cloudy, winds N 6mph, with 62% humidity. I followed a very faded-winged female monarch as she found milkweed to lay eggs on and rested/sunned at times. She was quite frail-looking and I was glad she could find a peaceful place to find nectar and rest after her long journeys.
I continued to see monarchs throughout the afternoon and early evening.
This is a photo of one of the male monarchs as he nectars from a flowering milkweed in the bright morning sunlight.
