We counted 122 monarchs at Rick Evans Grandview Prairie in the hour and a half that we were there. Included in that number were six mating pairs - also watched a female laying eggs on A. viridis. Most of the butterflies were feeding on Rose Vervain along the roadways.
April 15: About 75% of the monarchs we saw were bright and were probably first generation butterflies from South Texas. The other 25% were rather faded and some had torn wings
but we had a very strong storm system move through the area on Friday, April 6 and some of the damage could have happened in the winds that came before, during and
after the storm. We also had very strong storms move through our area about midnight Friday, April 13. It turned much cooler - highs in 50s and lows in 30s and 40s - for a couple of days. We still have very strong winds, but the sun is shining and on Monday it is supposed to warm up to the 70s.
