During the winter months, when the air is cool the chrysalis formation and development of the butterfly seems to be about a week to 10 days longer than in the summer months, caterpillars collected in February (I leave about half on the milkweed and half I bring into a cage with a plant for the final days before they develop chrysalis)took a good three weeks in chrysalis before they emerged last week. Success was 100 percent. When I try to search for chrysalis outside where the big milkweed plants are located I can only find one or two...yet I know there were at least seven large caterpillars on the plant that I left behind. I only found one chrysalis on a wall.
