Today w busy day 4 birds(hummers & songbirds). Due 2 cooler temps.highs (62-65)-Lows-40's/50's. Very dark due 2 clouds & raining. Weather drove hummers 2 feeders. 2 adult Black-chinned hummers(male & female)seen feeding at different times. 2 of their Offspring seen feeding 2day. :-) Often our hummers may not B successful w 1st Clutch due 2 Spring rains, storms & falling tree branches. This Spring h been unusually cooler than the last 6 yrs. living here. So happy 2 know their 1st clutch made it. Young fed more often than their parents. Could h ben their 1st day learning how 2 feed from feeders. They w more balanced on Aspect's 4-port Highview Hummzinger feeder & could easily locate port hole. During a nectar change I put 4-port Frolic Flower pinched waist feeder out with flowers removed. One of the young w only feed hovering. Other sibling landed after either over/under shooting it. He finally landed but seemed to be a little shaky/off balanced on the foot rest. Took several practices 2 find the port hole. I know I h siblings b one has place on his upper chest area that w being constantly rubbed by the nest rim. Other sibling does not have this "t-tale" mark. These hummers are more hardier than I thought. Young ones tails are shorter than parents.
