Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/26/2018

Number: 1

Woo-Hoo!! Our 1st tiny little female Hummer showed up at 6:30 pm & fed from our feeder, which is on our 2nd floor deck. She came back to the feeder a couple of more times before darkness set in. Welcome back, little girl! Hubby was the 1st to spot her.....he's always the one who spots them 1st every Spring!! Today's sighting was 1 day earlier than last year & last year's 1st sighting was also a female. Prior to last year, our 1st Spring sightings were always males. I guess the girls have been in a race this year & last to get here 1st, to show "those guys" who's the boss, lol! Our crab apple tree is right next to the feeder & the buds on it are about to bust out into blooms & our Hummers always enjoy nectaring from those flowers, so our 1st girl got here just in time to enjoy the load of blooms this tree will have! Our purple potted Columbine hasn't bloomed yet, but I'm sure it will in no time. Our Hummers also always enjoy that plant! We also have 2 Rose of Sharon bushes that they love, but they don't bloom until July. Now it's time to get to our local Garden Center to get a few more Hummer friendly flowering plants to put on our deck. Once we have more than 1 Hummer, we'll put our 2nd feeder out near the front door, which is down on the 1st level of our condo building. We're SO excited that Hummer season is BACK! :-)
