Barn Swallow (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 04/27/2018

Number: 1

A mating pair of Barn Swallows arrived today. We are happy to have any after last fall when a hawk kept entering the barn and killed almost the entire six pairs of Barn Swallows and untold offspring. It was very traumatic to watch them fly off with them.
Usually we have dozens of Barn Swallows gathering for the fall migration all together, but last year sadly there were only a few.
I hope they will use the nests farthest from the openings into the barn this year. Am hoping their numbers will build back up this year. These are one of the most stunning and beautiful birds of North America.
