Practice Report (Any Species)

Date: 10/15/2015

Number: 1

SIGHTED: Snowy White Owl.
Palisades Interstate Parkway (PIP) Southbound, right traffic lane, approx. 1/2 mile south of Bear Mountain Circle/Bridge. Beautiful, large, Snowy was perched on branch overhanging the right hand traffic lane. I was driving, approx. 40 mph, having just merged onto the PIP from Rte 9W at the BMCircle. The bird appeared well healthy, well fed, with full set of feathers; wings, ears, eyes, feet intact. No apparent injuries or stress was visible. Bird appeared to be taking a rest on the branch and was casually viewing the surrounding landscape. After this sighting, I attempted to find blogs and/or websites of other Snowy sightings near my area. Apparently, 4-5 sightings of Snowys within an hour radius of Bear Mountain have been reported over the last five years.
