Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/01/2018

Number: 2

First hummingbird sighting of the 2018 season at 7:10pm at northern most of four patio feeders. Unable to tell which sex as it was on the feeders backside. It flew eastward toward some evergreen trees after drinking for about two minutes. At 7:25pm a male hummer stopped at the western patio feeder and drank for about three minutes. just as he flew off westward, I believe the first hummer flew from the evergreens to the northern patio feeder and proceeded to drink for about three minutes as well. I still was unable to verify which sex it was before it again flew back into the evergreens. The weather at the time of sightings was 80 degrees with 15 mph winds gusting to 28 mph. Humidity was 27 percent, skies were clear and sunny all day. Expected low temperature tonight 60 degrees, little to no breeze and 36 percent humidity and clear skies. Presently little is in bloom beyond hyacinth, daffodils, late crocus and a few tulips. Trees and shrubs still have a few more days before blooming, however there is an ample amount of small insects and spiders already out and about for them to feed on.
